Njörðr
Njord (Old Norse: Njörðr) is one of the chief Vanir gods and the deity of the sea, wind, fishing, and seafaring. He is the father of Freyr and Freyja — in Vanaheim, sibling marriage was permitted, though forbidden among the Aesir. After the Aesir-Vanir War, Njord, Freyr, and Freyja were sent to Asgard as hostages to seal the peace. Njord married the giantess Skaði, but the marriage was unhappy: she wished to live in her mountain home (Þrymheimr), while he longed for the sea (Nóatún). They agreed to alternate weeks in each place, but neither was satisfied.
