Names & Heiti

Iðunn Idunn
Idunn (Old Norse: Iðunn) is the goddess of youth and keeper of the golden apples that keep the gods eternally youthful. Without her apples, the gods would age and die. She is married to Bragi. Idunn was kidnapped by the giant Þjazi after Loki — threatened by Þjazi — lured her out of Asgard under false pretenses. Without Idunn's apples the Aesir began rapidly aging. Under pressure from the gods, Loki borrowed Freyja's feather cloak, flew to Jötunheim, transformed Idunn into a nut, and carried her back. Þjazi pursued them as an eagle but was burned to death as he flew over Asgard's walls.
