Ship
Skidbladner
Freyr's magical ship — always fair wind, always the finest vessel, can be folded like a cloth.
Skíðblaðnir (Old Norse: Skíðblaðnir, 'assembled from thin pieces of wood') is the greatest ship ever built, crafted by the sons of Ivaldi for the god Freyr. It was given to Freyr by Loki as one of three extraordinary gifts brought from Svartalfheim.
Skíðblaðnir is large enough to carry all the gods of Asgard with their weapons and armor in full battle readiness. Yet when it is not needed, it can be folded up like a cloth and tucked into a pocket or pouch — small enough to carry in a hand.
Whenever the sail is raised, a favorable wind fills it. The ship always has the wind it needs, no matter what direction it must sail. It is the finest vessel in all the nine worlds — faster, larger, and more obedient than any other ship that has ever sailed any sea.
Skíðblaðnir embodies the dwarves' mastery of craft: the ability to make things both immensely powerful and strangely practical, shaped to serve divine needs in ways that defy ordinary understanding of size and matter.
